Gregg Zaun is leaving the Toronto Blue Jays for a division rival, agreeing to a one-year deal with the Baltimore Orioles.

The 37-year-old catcher takes over for Ramon Hernandez, who was traded to Cincinnati earlier in the off-season.

Zaun hit .251 with six homers and 30 R-B-I's for the Blue Jays last season.

He was originally drafted by Baltimore in 1989, and made his major-league debut with the Orioles in '95.

The Boston Red Sox have finalized a four-year, 41-million-dollar (m) deal with infielder Kevin Youkilis.

He had 29 home runs and 115 R-B-I's last season, and also won a Gold Glove for his defence.

Elsewhere, the world-champion Philadelphia Phillies signed pinch-hitter Greg Dobbs to a two-year deal.

And infielder Ronny Cedeno (suh-DAY'-nyoh) signed a one-year deal with the Chicago Cubs.

(Golf-Sony)

Tom Pernice Junior has a share of the second-round lead at the Sony Open at Honolulu.

Pernice fired a second-round 63, capped by an eagle on his final hole of the day.

Pernice and Nathan Green sit at eight-under, one shot up on Shigeki Maruyama (mah-roo-YAH'-mah).

Lorens Chan, a 14-year-old amateur qualifier, shot a 75 to miss the cut by six shots.

(Golf-Woods)

Tiger Woods will be part of an historic moment -- and this time, it isn't his own.

Woods has accepted an invitation to speak as part of U-S President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration.

Says Woods: ''I am honoured that I was invited to this historic event and look forward to participating.''

Woods has generally avoided discussing politics during his rise to the top of the golf world.

(Auto-McLaren)

Ron Dennis is stepping down as team principal of the McLaren Formula One racing team.

Dennis, who won seven constructors' titles with the team, will hand over the reins to Martin Whitmarsh.

The 61-year-old Dennis, who has been team principal since 1981, says he'll step down March 1st.

Whitmarsh is currently McLaren's head of operations, having joined the team in 1989.

(Soccer-Calderon)

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has announced his resignation following a vote-rigging scandal.

The 57-year-old lawyer stepped down after allegations that he had manipulated a general assembly vote.

He will be replaced by vice-president Vicente Boluda, who becomes the team's 18th president.

Calderon was criticized for buying foreign players rather than promoting youth-team players.

(Tennis-Sydney)

Toronto's Daniel Nestor has reached the men's doubles final at an Australian Open tuneup event in Sydney.

Nestor and partner Nenad Zimonjic (ZEE'-moh-nitch) of Serbia advanced with a three-set win in the semifinals.

They'll face some familiar opponents in the final -- American twins Bob and Mike Bryan.

Elena Dementieva won the women's singles title, beating Dinara Safina (sah-FEE'-nah) in three sets.
