Blue Jay starting pitchers:

David Wells with the White Sox on May 23, 2001, losing 9-6. After belittling the fans and the city, Boomer signed with the Chisox. Nerves showed as Wells allowed 13 hits and eight runs.

Roger Clemens with the Yankees on April 19, 2001, with a no-decision in a 6-5, 17-inning win. After leveraging his way out of town to hitch his ample wagon to a winner, Rocket managed to avoid pitching in Toronto for two full years after his trade to the Yanks.

Chris Carpenter with the Cardinals on June 14, 2005, winning 7-0. Carpenter left after '02 when GM J.P. Ricciardi offered a minor-league contract coming off injury. The Cards gave him a two-year guarantee that he repaid with a Cy Young and two World Series appearances. Russ Adams got the only hit in a complete game with 10 strikeouts.

AL Leiter with the Marlins on Aug. 29, 1997, winning 8-0. Fans and club president Paul Beeston were upset Leiter signed with the Marlins following '95, feeling that with all of the club's time and energy spent on his injury rehab, Leiter somehow owed the city something. He pitched six innings of two-hit ball.

Jimmy Key with the Yankees on June 23, 1993, winning 4-3. The Jays insisted they would never give a contract longer than three years to a pitcher, forcing Key to head to the Bronx after the '92 World Series.
