Marlinshome.com | Florida Marlins News, marlins Scores, Game Recaps & Commentary - --Manager Fredi Gonzalez and 2B Dan Uggla were ejected in the eighth inning Friday. Uggla, whose batting average dropped to .182 after going hitless in four at-bats, was hit on the arm by a pitch while trying to bunt.
After Uggla reached first, Dodgers manager Joe Torre asked for an appeal, arguing that Uggla had swung and missed the pitch before he was hit. First base umpire Ed Rapuano called a strike and Uggla wound up striking out before shouting at Rapuano. --RHP Anibal Sanchez, who was put on the disabled list Monday with a sprained right shoulder, is making rapid progress. Although he was initially placed on a no-throw status for three weeks, he played catch Friday from 90 feet.
"That's very encouraging," said Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez, who didn't want to predict how soon Sanchez could be return. When Sanchez left his last start Sunday, the team said he might not be back until around the All-Star break.
--RHP Josh Johnson played light catch Friday, a day after pitching just four innings in Colorado. Johnson complained Thursday that his shoulder didn't feel right; he said he felt fine after Friday's session. He plans to throw his usual bullpen session on Saturday and make his next start Tuesday.
--LHP Andrew Miller will be activated from the disabled list in time to start Saturday for the first time since April 20. Miller, who'd been out with a strained right oblique, will not be limited to a pitch count.
MEDICAL WATCH:
LHP Andrew Miller (strained right oblique) went on the 15-day disabled list April 21. The injury is not believed to be serious. He played long-toss April 28, and he threw a bullpen session May 2.
