--SS Hanley Ramirez has been on fire after being slowed by soreness in his shoulders and right hand. Ramirez has an eight-game hitting streak after going 2-for 4-Sunday. He's 17-for-31 (.548) during that span. He arrived in Denver on Friday batting .303 and left hitting .348 after going 9-for-13 in the three games. He has hit in all 13 games he has played at Coors Field -- 25-for-60 for a .417 batting average.
On April 20, Ramirez was batting .245 with two home runs and nine RBI through his first 13 games. Since then, Ramirez is batting .441 (26-for-59) with four home runs and nine RBI in 16 games. --RHP Chris Volstad allowed two earned runs in six innings Sunday for his fourth straight quality start. But no thanks for a lack of run support in Florida's 3-2 loss to the Rockies, he wound up with his second straight loss.
--1B Jorge Cantu had played in 15 straight games before he was held out of the starting lineup Sunday. Manager Fredi Gonzalez wanted to give Cantu a breather. Cantu was 7-for-38 (.184) going into Sunday when he flew out as a pinch-hitter in the eighth inning of Florida's 3-2 loss.
MEDICAL WATCH:
RHP Anibal Sanchez (strained right shoulder) went on the 15-day disabled list May 8. He will miss approximately two months.
LHP Andrew Miller (strained right oblique) went on the 15-day disabled list April 21. The injury is not believed to be serious. He played long-toss April 28, and he threw a bullpen session May 2. He made a rehab start for Class A Jupiter on May 6. He will make another rehab start May 11, and if all goes well, he would be activated May 16.
RHP Scott Proctor (sore right elbow) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He will visit Dr. James Andrews on May 11. He is hoping to return by June 1.
RHP Rick VandenHurk (inflamed right elbow) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 28.
