Florida Marlins Roster Report 2009-05-07

Florida Marlins Roster Report 2009-05-07
--Rookie LHP Graham Taylor was optioned to Class AA Jacksonville after allowing eight runs (four earned) in 2 1/3 innings Wednesday against Atlanta in his third start for the Marlins. RHP Carlos Martinez, a reliever, will be called up from Class AAA New Orleans to take Taylor's spot.

Taylor had been plugging the rotation spot of injured LHP Andrew Miller, who is in line to rejoin the rotation on May 16.

--Manager Fredi Gonzalez shuffled his batting order Wednesday night. The main move had CF Cameron Maybin (.208) batting second after he had hit mostly eighth this year.

C John Baker was dropped from second to fifth, 2B Dan Uggla from fifth to sixth and RF Cody Ross from seventh to eighth.

"As a manager, the only thing you've got to control is that lineup a little bit. Why not give (Maybin) an opportunity to have little bit of success?" Gonzalez said, noting that Maybin is batting .259 (7-for-27) while hitting second this year.

--RHP Scott Proctor said he's bracing for the possibility he may need Tommy John surgery. Proctor will have his sore right elbow examined Monday by orthopedic surgeon James Andrews.

--Class AAA New Orleans 1B Gaby Sanchez attended the Marlins' game Wednesday night with the help of crutches. Sanchez was examined in Miami after injuring his right knee in a collision at home plate Tuesday. Sanchez, who will be out at least a month, was hitting .345 with four home runs and 16 RBIs for New Orleans.

MEDICAL WATCH:

LHP Andrew Miller (strained right oblique) went on the 15-day disabled list April 21. The injury is not believed to be serious. He played long-toss April 28, and he threw a bullpen session May 2. He made a rehab start for Class A Jupiter on May 6. He will make another rehab start May 11, and if all goes well, he would be activated May 16.

RHP Scott Proctor (sore right elbow) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He will visit Dr. James Andrews on May 11. He is hoping to return by June 1.

RHP Rick VandenHurk (inflamed right elbow) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 28.
