In the bullpen, RHP Kiko Calero has pitched well during a heavy workload; he leads the team in appearances. 1B Jorge Cantu is hitting well after being sidelined by a sore hand, but CF Cameron Maybin has been struggling.
PLAYER NEWS: --LF Jeremy Hermida has cooled off after a hot start to the season. He went just 2-for-22 on the road trip that ended Sunday, then went 1-for-4 Monday against the Reds. His RBI single in the sixth snapped a Marlins streak of 21 straight hitless at-bats with runners in scoring position.
--LHP Andrew Miller (right oblique strain) will make a rehab start Wednesday morning in Jupiter with the Class A Hammerheads. If that goes well, Miller will make another rehab start May 11 with Class AA Jacksonville.
--LHP Graham Taylor, who's plugging injured Andrew Miller's rotation spot, will start Wednesday. His next turn in the rotation comes up Monday but the Marlins are off that day. No word yet on whether the team will skip Taylor in the rotation.
--RHP Scott Proctor (elbow) threw off the mound Monday at Dolphin Stadium.
--RHP Rick VandenHurk (elbow) threw off the mound Monday at Dolphin Stadium.
--IF Wes Helms singled in the ninth inning for his team-high fifth pinch hit. Helms is 5-for-9 (.556) as a pinch hitter.
--CF Cameron Maybin has been having a tough early part of the season. He went 0-for-3 with an intentional walk and three strikeouts Monday. Maybin, hitting .208, leads the team with 29 strikeouts in 77 at-bats.
MEDICAL WATCH:
RHP Hayden Penn (right ankle sprain) was injured May 1. He returned to action May 2.
LHP Andrew Miller (strained right oblique) went on the 15-day disabled list April 21. The injury is not believed to be serious. He played long-toss April 28, and he threw a bullpen session May 2. He was scheduled to make a rehab start May 6.
RHP Scott Proctor (sore right elbow) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He won't return before mid-May.
RHP Rick VandenHurk (inflamed right elbow) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 28.
