--RF Cody Ross hit a three-run home run in the second inning, giving the Marlins their first home run since last Friday, after four homerless games. After setting a franchise record with 208 home runs in 2008, the Marlins have homered in four of their first nine games. The Marlins were held homerless in four straight games just once last year (Aug. 5-8).

--C Ronny Paulino threw out Kelly Johnson trying to steal second to end the fourth inning Thursday. Runners are 0-3 when trying to steal against the Marlins, the only team in baseball that hasn't allowed a stolen base.

Paulino has thrown out two runners. He usually starts against left-handed pitchers, but he started in Wednesday's day game against Atlanta RHP Kenshin Kawakami to spell C John Baker, who started Tuesday.

--CF Cameron Maybin, a front-runner for NL Rookie of the Year going into the season, was held out of the lineup because of a slump. Maybin is batting .214 with a team-high 12 strikeouts.

Alfredo Amezaga started in center field.

"I'm in battle mode trying to make some adjustments," said Maybin, who was the first Marlin on the field for pregame batting practice in Atlanta. "We're winning; that's all that matters."

RHP Scott Proctor (sore right elbow) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He won't return before mid-May.
