--RHP Hayden Penn made just his second career relief appearance Wednesday, facing four batters to notch his first win since Sept. 1, 2005.
When Penn took the mound in the fifth inning of Florida's 10-4 win, he remembered his last start at Turner Field -- June 24, 2005, when he allowed seven runs in two innings for the Orioles. "I had bad memories here," he said. "It was good to get back out here and help the team."
--2B Dan Uggla had his second consecutive three-RBI night Wednesday. He has driven in 42 RBIs in his career against the Braves, his second-best total against any opponent. He has 44 RBIs against the Nationals.
--1B Jorge Cantu returned to the starting lineup Wednesday for the first time since Saturday and went 2-for-5, stole a base and scored the go-ahead run in Florida's 10-4 win. Cantu's bruised left hand was still wrapped up in protective tape, but he said he expects to play again Thursday.
--LHP Taylor Tankersley, the organization's top draft pick in 2004, will have surgery Friday to repair a stress fracture in his left elbow. Tankersley, with Class AAA New Orleans, hasn't pitched yet this year, and the timetable for his recovery won't be known until after the surgery. He's expected to have two screws inserted into a bone in his elbow. He went 2-1 with a 2.85 ERA for the Marlins in 2006 and 6-1 with a 3.99 ERA in 2007 before the elbow hindered his progress in 2008.
--RHP Ryan Tucker, a first-round compensation pick in 2005, has been placed on the seven-day disabled list by Class AAA New Orleans because of a knee ailment. Tucker -- 2-3 with a 8.27 ERA in 13 games for the Marlins last year -- allowed seven earned runs in 1 2/3 innings Tuesday at Memphis.
--SS Hanley Ramirez stole his first base of the season Tuesday, his seventh game. He stole his first base last year in the sixth game of the season and finished with 35. He's batting third full-time this year instead of leadoff for the first time in his career.
