Florida Marlins Notes, Quotes 2008-07-30
--Marlins hitters struck out 11 times, giving the team a major league high of 917 strikeouts. No other team has more than 850.

--1B Mike Jacobs, who regularly is pulled for defensive purposes, was not in the lineup. Jorge Cantu started at first base, and Wes Helms was at third.

--C John Baker threw out Carlos Delgado attempting to steal in the third inning Monday -- the first time in his career Baker has nailed a would-be base stealer. He is 1-for-8 in throwing out runners.

--The Marlins will continue to evaluate the catching market. Veterans such as Baltimore's Ramon Hernandez ($7.5 million this season) and the Giants' Bengie Molina ($6 million) likely are out of the picture because of their salaries. Other targets have been Pittsburgh's Ryan Doumit, Texas' Gerald Laird and Colorado's Yorvit Torrealba.

--C Matt Treanor plans to play in a minor league game Thursday, but he is contemplating the likelihood of surgery in the offseason to repair three muscle tears in his hip. Three small tears were found in an MRI on Monday. For now Treanor plans to play through the injury.

BY THE NUMBERS: 24 -- Home runs for Hanley Ramirez in his first 100 games this year. Last year he hit his 24th home run in his 130th game and finished with a career-high 29.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "We've already kind of made our trade. We got 'JJ' (Josh Johnson) back and Anibal's (Sanchez) on his way back. For us, those are two horses we just got back." -- First baseman Mike Jacobs.
