Florida Marlins Notes, Quotes 2008-07-29

--RHP Anibal Sanchez rejoined the Marlins to prepare for his Thursday start against the Rockies.

Sanchez started six games last season before being optioned to Class AAA Albuquerque and then undergoing surgery. He was 10-3 with a 2.83 ERA as a rookie in 2006 and threw a no-hitter Sept. 6 against Arizona. He had five rehab starts this month and threw bullpens on Saturday and Monday.

"I have to do everything like when I worked in '06," Sanchez said. "I know the position we are in right now, so I have to help this team make the playoffs."

--LHP Taylor Tankersley was recalled from Class AAA Albuquerque to take the roster spot of RHP Rick VandenHurk, who was sent to Albuquerque after Sunday's game.

Tankersley's stay might be short. The Marlins will make another roster move Thursday, when RHP Anibal Sanchez is scheduled to be activated from the disabled list to start against the Rockies.

Tankersley started the season with the Marlins before he was sent down to Albuquerque after going 0-1 with an 8.64 ERA in his first 24 appearances. He's posted a 1.23 ERA in 21 games for the Isotopes.

--OF Alejandro De Aza, on the disabled list the entire season, had surgery on his left ankle July 25. His season is over.

--RHP Burke Badenhop (right shoulder tendinitis) had his next rehab assignment put on hold because of neck stiffness.

--With his 25th home run on Sunday, 2B Dan Uggla has 83 for his career -- tied with Joe Gordon for the most home runs by a second baseman through their first three big-league seasons, a record that has stood since 1940.

BY THE NUMBERS: 24 -- Home runs for Hanley Ramirez in his first 100 games this year. Last year he hit his 24th home run in his 130th game and finished with a career-high 29.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "We've already kind of made our trade. We got 'JJ' (Josh Johnson) back and Anibal's (Sanchez) on his way back. For us, those are two horses we just got back." -- First baseman Mike Jacobs.
