Marlinshome.com | Florida Marlins News, marlins Scores, Game Recaps & Commentary - --1B Jorge Cantu continues to swing a hot bat. He hit another home run Thursday. That gives Cantu four home runs in three games and five in his last six games -- all after coming back from a left hand bruise that forced him out of action for three games early last week. Cantu also doubled with the bases loaded in the 10th inning Thursday, giving him four RBIs in the game.
--RHP Josh Johnson has pitched into the sixth inning in each of his last three starts but hasn't recorded a decision. Johnson hasn't won since April 12, his second start of the year, when he pitched a complete game against the Mets and LHP Johan Sananta. Wednesday was a rematch of that start, but Johnson allowed three runs in six innings. He left trailing 3-2 before the Marlins rallied to win. --INF Alfredo Amezaga said he tried to convince his parents to leave Mexico and join him in New York to get away from the swine flu epidemic. His parents declined.
The Marlins have not issued any warnings to their players. Of the confirmed cases in the United States, the majority were in New York.
"We haven't talked about it at all, but we're aware of what's going on," said Larry Beinfest, the Marlins' president of baseball operations.
BY THE NUMBERS: 6.86 -- ERA for RHP Ricky Nolasco after four starts. Nolasco led the staff with 15 wins last year.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "We can let this negativity that we've had for the past six games continue. We got to step back and start over." -- INF Wes Helms on Florida's losing streak.
