--Rookie CF Cameron Maybin hit his first homer of the season Tuesday in the eighth inning off Pittsburgh's Tyler Yates. It was Maybin's first home run since he connected for his first career shot off Roger Clemens at Yankee Stadium on Aug. 18, 2007.
Maybin is 3-for-17 with five walks and seven strikeouts on the road trip. "He put some good swings on some balls," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "Hopefully this will get him going. We need him to start swinging the bat and get on base and all that stuff."
--Even when he's not with the team, equipment manager John Silverman comes through in the clutch. Silverman is not on the Marlins road trip because he ran Monday in the Boston Marathon.
But he had foresight before the team left Florida on April 13 to prepare for the all possible elements. He made sure to pack tassel caps for cold weather.
Appreciative Marlins players are wearing the caps now as the 50-degree temps start dipping.
"Silver has been doing this so long, he's prepared for anything," said Mike "Rock" Hughes, Silverman's assistant. "He's at the top of his game, always."
