--RHP Anibal Sanchez is the second Marlins starter in three days to complain about cold temperatures but still come away with a win. Florida native Chris Volstad said he was "freezing" on Tuesday in his win. Sanchez didn't like the 61-degree temperatures Thursday before notching his first win since 2006.
"The first couple of innings, I didn't feel the ball real well," said Sanchez, who allowed two runs in six innings. "The weather was hard for me. I'm from Venezuela. I like hot weather. I like South Florida." --1B Ross Gload, Florida's new backup, knows all about fast starts. He played for Kansas City last year when the Royals got off to a 6-2 start before finishing fourth.
"We didn't size up any rings after that first couple of wins," he said.
Ross wasn't downplaying the Marlins' 7-1 start. He pointed out how important it is to win as many games early in the season as possible, to allow for inevitable dry spells that teams go through in the season.
--1B Logan Morrison, considered the organization's top power-hitting prospect, will be out six to eight weeks after fracturing his right thumb with Class AA Jacksonville on Friday. Morrison, 21, was named Florida State League MVP in 2008 after batting .332 with 13 homers and 74 RBIs for Class A Jupiter. The left-handed hitter collided with a runner Friday and suffered a small fracture. He was 2-for-6 with a home run and three RBIs in two games for Jacksonville.
