--SS Hanley Ramirez batted .184 in 17 spring games from the third spot in the batting order. The Marlins will have Ramirez hit third full-time this season for the first time in his career; he hit mostly leadoff over his first three seasons.
--RHP Rick VandenHurk, who will start the season on the DL with an inflamed right elbow, said he can't rule the possibility of his injury being related to the two starts he made for the Netherlands in the World Baseball Classic. "I don't know if it's especially from (the WBC), but you're playing in high-stakes games early in the season. It could be. I'm not sure. Those are intense games to play in, that's for sure," he said.
VandenHurk was put on the DL retroactive to March 28, after experiencing pain a few days earlier.
--The Marlins will have a payroll of $34.4 million in 2009, with the highest salaries to three infielders: SS Hanley Ramirez ($5.5 million), 2B Dan Uggla ($5.35 million) and 1B Jorge Cantu ($3.5 million).
--RHP Chris Volstad, Florida's No. 3 starter, served up three home runs in 27 spring innings. He allowed three in 84 1/3 innings last year after the Marlins called him up in July.
