--SS Hanley Ramirez said he plans to be ready for the season opener, despite tendinitis in his right shoulder that had kept him out of action five consecutive games through March 20.
--1B Gaby Sanchez was shut down for a few days after suffering a bone bruise in his left knee. He'd collided with Washington's Lastings Milledge. Sanchez, trying to win the first base job, was hitting .200 through 10 games this spring.
--RHP Chris Volstad recently made two starts on short rest. The result: a total of no runs allowed over nine innings. Volstad was scheduled to make his next start March 24 on regular rest. Projected to be Florida's No. 3 starter, Volstad pitched on short rest so the Marlins could line up their rotation in sequence to start the season.
--RHP Harvey Garcia, who sat out all of 2008 following shoulder surgery, was released by the Marlins.
