Florida Marlins: Marlins still last on Forbes team valuation list

Florida Marlins: Marlins still last on Forbes team valuation list
Apr. 23, 2009 (Sun Sentinel delivered by Newstex ) --

It happens every April.

The Marlins open their season with too many games away from home, even though this is the best time of year to play in South Florida, and Forbes Magazine comes out with its annual valuation of major-league teams and the Marlins vehemently protest.

Haven't heard the Marlins' take yet on the Forbes numbers, but it's interesting to note the Fish increased their value 8 percent in the past year(to $277 million) even though 10 big-league teams saw their franchise value decline and the Marlins still rank 30th and last.

There's no mention of the Marlins' new stadium in this part of the piece, so I'm wondering if that wasn't factored in. If not, the Marlins almost certainly would blow past the Pirates ($288M) and Royals ($314M) once that adjustment is made.

Wait till next year, huh?

By the way, who wouldn't take 8 percent appreciation on their most valuable possession these days? How long before any of us see that sort of year on our home values again?
