Could this be the beginning of the end for Maybin? Manager Fredi Gonzalez on Friday did not disagree that Maybin wouldbe impacted most by Chris Coghlan's promotion. Coghlan is going to play left regularly, which means Jeremy Hermida will shift to right and Cody Ross will slide to center. The Marlins also have Alfredo Amezaga they can work into the mix as well.

Maybin just hasn't shown signs of emerging from a season-long slump. He hit safely in five straight during the last road trip at a .286 clip, but since then he's 1 for his last 10. Currently hitting .202 with a .280 on-base and .310 slugging percentage, Maybin has just two multi-hit games and his batting average hasn't reached the .250 mark since he went 1 for 4 on Opening Day.

Maybin is still just 22. The Reggie Abercrombie comparisions are ridiculous. He's a talented guy with a lot of tools who looks like he still needs time to develop. Marlins fans are a little spoiled. Not everybody figures it out at 21 like Miguel Cabrera.

Maybe the best thing for Maybin right now is to get him into the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. Let him get his confidence up with New Orleans and hopefully he comes back later this season as more of an impact offensive player.

Assuming Burke Badenhop takes Anibal Sanchez's rotation spot, the Marlins don't have to make a roster move until Andrew Miller comes back on May 16. That might be when Maybin ships out.
