The official attendance, based on ticket sales, was 11,211. The unofficial count from reporters in the press box was 589 ?- just five more than the tally counted by relief pitchers in Florida's bullpen.
"We didn't count event staff, either," said right-hander Joe Nelson, who counted with two other pitchers just before the game's start. "But maybe you guys had a better view."
The Marlins said they wished more fans came out but that attendance doesn't affect their play.
"It doesn't seem to bother our guys. They go out and play hard," manager Fredi Gonzalez said.
The Marlins head to St. Louis on Friday eight games out of first place in the National League East, but not without hope. It was this time last year that the Rockies won an amazing 13 of 14 games and the Mets imploded so Colorado could make the playoffs as the wild card.
"That's a little crazy what they did, but why not? Why can't we do that?" Gonzalez said. "We've got a chance. Let's keep battling and put some games together."
MARLINS 5, BRAVES 3: LF Josh Willingham and RF Jeremy Hermida delivered RBI singles with two outs in the fourth inning to tie the game. Cody Ross' RBI single in the seventh produced the go-ahead run. Rookie RHP Chris Volstad started and allowed three runs in six innings.
