The team added some insurance to its catching corps, signing Paul Lo Duca to a minor league contract.

Lo Duca, 36, will join Florida's Class AAA Albuquerque Isotopes for what will be his second stint with the Marlins.

For now, he'll be insurance for John Baker and Matt Treanor, who returned Wednesday after missing nearly a month with a left hip strain. Lo Duca could get called up once rosters expand Sept. 1.

"John and Matt are doing a great job," said Lo Duca, who was released by the Nationals on July 31. "I'm excited for the chance to get back. And I just want an opportunity to help a team that has a chance to go to the playoffs."

Lo Duca played for the Marlins in 2004-05.

METS 3, MARLINS 0: The Marlins got just two hits -- doubles over a span of six innings -- against Mets LHP Oliver Perez on Friday. It was the second time in three games the Marlins have been shut out. Florida has scored 11 runs in the first four games of their road trip but just three runs since Tuesday, when they kicked off the trip with an 8-3 win in Philadelphia. RHP Ricky Nolasco allowed three runs -- a two-run home run to David Wright on a 0-2 pitch and a solo home run to Carlos Delgado on a 1-2 pitch.
