Florida Marlins Inside Pitch 2009-05-13
Any hopes the Marlins had of seeing right-hander Scott Proctor pitch this season ended Tuesday when he underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow. He'll be out until the middle of 2010 at the earliest.

Proctor, who signed a one-year, $750,000 contract in January, pitched one inning against the Orioles in a spring training game Feb. 27 before he was shut down.

He had been trying to come back from October surgery to repair a partially torn flexor tendon on the same elbow.

Proctor led the American League with 83 appearances for the Yankees in 2006. He made 83 appearances again in 2007 in a season split between the Yankees and Dodgers, then struggled to pitch in 41 games last year for the Dodgers.

"I've never seen anybody work so hard (in an effort) to get through this season without having that surgery. He just couldn't do it," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "His last side session (on May 4) was painful. He threw two pitches where he screamed."

BREWERS 6, MARLINS 3: John Koronka gave up three home runs -- two to Prince Fielder -- while losing his first start in nearly two years. Koronka allowed five runs and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings. Hanley Ramirez had his fifth straight multi-hit game, but Florida hitters combined to go 1-for-21 over the final seven innings after taking a 3-0 lead in the second.
