At a time when the team is trying to stock its bullpen with quality arms, the Marlins traded right-hander Logan Kensing to the Nationals.

In return, Florida got right-hander Kyle Gunderson, a 24-year-old who's at least a year away from being ready for the majors.

Gunderson, the Nationals' 48th-round pick in 2007, was assigned to high Class A Jupiter. He was 2-0 with a 2.84 ERA with four walks and four strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings for high Class A Potomac.

The move was more about the team giving up on Kensing, a second-round pick out of Texas A&M in 2002. Kensing was designated for assignment last weekend after posting a 9.82 ERA with five walks and seven strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings.

Kensing was moved to clear a roster spot for left-hander Graham Taylor, a Class AA pitcher who's plugging the rotation until injured lefty Andrew Miller returns from the disabled list.

MARLINS 4, METS 3: Cody Ross drove in the tying and winning runs with a single off J.J. Putz in the eighth inning as the Marlins beat the Mets for the second time this year in a game started by Johan Santana. Jorge Cantu hit a home run, and Josh Johnson allowed three runs in six innings. Florida has now won two in a row overall and four of six against the Mets.
