Florida Marlins Inside Pitch 2009-04-29

Florida Marlins Inside Pitch 2009-04-29
Shortstop Hanley Ramirez missed his first game of the season Tuesday, held out because of a sore right hand. Alfredo Amezaga started in his place.

Ramirez left Monday's game in the first inning after being hit on the back of his right hand and wrist by a pitch from John Maine. X-rays were negative.

The All-Star might consider himself fortunate that he hasn't been hit on the hands more often. He said he has noticed pitchers have been pitching him inside more this season.

Ramirez hopes to play Wednesday, but there's a good chance the Marlins will rest him at least until Thursday's series opener against the Cubs in Chicago. He wasn't looking forward to sitting.

"You get bored. You don't know what to do. You have to be a cheerleader," Ramirez said.

"I want to make sure it's 100 percent. I don't want to go out there and miss two more games."

MARLINS 7, METS 4: With SS Hanley Ramirez out of the lineup because of a bruised hand, 1B Jorge Cantu helped the Marlins snap a seven-game skid. Cantu hit two home runs and had five RBIs to help Florida rally from 3-0 and 4-2 deficits. RHP Ricky Nolasco had another rough start, allowing four runs in five innings. RHP Burke Badenhop got the win after pitching a scoreless sixth inning.
