Florida Marlins Inside Pitch 2009-04-17
The Marlins pulled off another franchise first -- a three-game sweep in Atlanta over their division rival.

"It seems like the Braves have always had that 'X' factor," reliever Matt Lindstrom said. "It's always tough to go into someone's house and win a series, let alone sweep them."

With a 6-2 win Thursday, the Marlins are off to a 3-0 start on their first trip. They opened the season at home by sweeping the Nationals and then took two of three from the Mets. They open a three-game series Friday in Washington.

"Nobody here is surprised," right fielder Cody Ross said. "There's a lot of skeptics out there who say 'it's early,' but the 25 guys in here all believe we can play with anybody in our division and anybody in our league."

Six of Florida's eight wins belong to starting pitchers. Andrew Miller is the only starter who hasn't notched a win.

MARLINS 6, BRAVES 2: After playing shoddy defense for the last few years, the Marlins know how errors can hurt them. On Thursday, Florida capped an error-free series to sweep three games from the Braves in Atlanta for the first time since the Marlins began play in 1993. Anibal Sanchez allowed two runs in six innings. Cody Ross snapped a personal slump, hitting a three-run home run and driving in four runs.
