Left-hander Scott Olsen bruised the tip of his left thumb trying to bunt in the fifth inning Wednesday night. He stayed in the game and then had X-rays which showed no fracture.
Olsen said he expects to make his next start, tentatively set for Monday in Atlanta. The bigger issue than his thumb is his velocity. Olsen allowed four runs in five innings against the Mets on Wednesday, and his velocity failed to top 89 mph again. Olsen has allowed 18 runs in 20 1/3 innings spanning his past four starts.
For the season, Olsen is 4-2 with a 3.65. However, he was 4-1 with a 2.22 ERA after seven starts.
