After listening to offers for right fielder Jeremy Hermida, the team is prepared to retain him in 2009 -- but in a new position.
Barring a move between now and spring training, Hermida will replace Josh Willingham in left field, and Cody Ross will start in right. "It makes sense," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "Maybe it'll make us better defensively."
Hermida made five errors last year, down from the nine he committed in 2007, but the team feels he's a better fit in left field.
Ross played mostly in center field in 2009, finishing the season with a career-high 22 home runs and 73 RBIs along with a .260 average.
"Wherever they want me, I don't care," Ross said. "I can play all three (outfield spots). It's not like it's going to be a big change."
