Marlinshome.com | Florida Marlins News, marlins Scores, Game Recaps & Commentary - If the Marlins fall short of the playoffs, Kevin Gregg said he knows fans will direct some blame on him for blowing nine saves, the most among relievers in both leagues.
"You can look at it that way," said Gregg, who lost his closer's role to Matt Lindstrom, "but the game can be won or lost in the first or the ninth (inning). "Yeah, when I do take the loss or blow a save in the ninth inning, it's magnified a little bit. That's something I live with. But I'm OK with that pressure."
In August, when the Marlins faded in the NL East race, Gregg was 0-4 in with three blown saves and a 10.13 ERA. Still, he said he could leave with a clear conscience even if the Marlins don't reach the postseason.
"It's easy to sit there and look back, 'Oh, if I would have done this, if I would have done that,'" he said. "Did I go out there and give everything I had to the team? I gave everything to the point where my knee didn't work."
MARLINS 14, ASTROS 2: RHP Ricky Nolasco notched his 15th win with another solid start, allowing two runs on five hits over seven innings. He walked just one. Nolasco got plenty of run support, as SS Hanley Ramirez hit two home runs and 3B Jorge Cantu hit a grand slam.
