The team still considers him its center fielder of the future, but he won't be rushed into everyday action until he's ready.

Maybin came to the Marlins with lefty Andrew Miller and four others in a December trade that sent Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis to Detroit.

Three others players sent from Detroit have played for the Marlins this year -- catcher Mike Rabelo and righties Burke Badenhop and Eulogio De La Cruz. Rabelo and Badenhop are on the disabled list.

"So far, we are pleased with the guys that we got back," baseball operations president Larry Beinfest said. "I think there's a lot of potential. In fairness to the trade, we would probably give it a few years and then look back and see how we did."

Maybin and Miller are being penciled into the team's opening-day roster next year.

"Hopefully the best is still to come, with Cameron hopefully becoming an everyday player in the major leagues and Andrew becoming a fixture in the rotation," Beinfest said.
