Third baseman Jorge Cantu made it happen Friday night when he connected in the fourth inning for his 25th home run, putting the 2008 Marlins in the history books. First baseman Mike Jacobs has 32, second baseman Dan Uggla has 30 and shortstop Hanley Ramirez has 29.
If Ramirez can connect, it'll be the first time the Marlins had three players with 30 homers.
Cantu had a couple of days off to rest his aches and pains before he returned to action Friday. He connected on a 1-2 pitch from Nationals right-hander Shairon Martis.
Including center fielder Cody Ross (21), the Marlins have five players with at least 20 home runs each for the first time in franchise history.
In baseball history, eight teams have had three infielders with 25 or more: Marlins (2008), Marlins (2007), Rangers (2005), Diamondbacks (2005), Rangers (2004), Rangers (2003), Yankees (2002) and Dodgers (1979).
MARLINS 2, NATIONALS 1: LHP Scott Olsen allowed one run in six innings Friday to earn his first win since July 19, a span of nine starts. 3B Jorge Cantu hit his 25th homer and RHP Matt Lindstrom notched his third straight save.
